Minority-Owned
Businesses Get "EZCERTIFIED"
First of Its Kind Software Automates Cumbersome Application Process for 8(a) and SDB
Certification
Washington, DC June 12, 2000, As the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA)
annual conference kicks off here today, several minority-owned businesses learned
first-hand how to get certified for government contracts in hours instead of months.
EZCertify.com, based in southern Maryland, conducted an en masse application completion
event with minority business owners, demonstrating for the first time its affordable and
one-of-a-kind software designed to accelerate and streamline the application process for
the SBA's Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) certification status when bidding on prime
government contracts.
"In 1998, the SBA overhauled its certification process, requiring applicants to fill
out dozens of complicated forms in order to gain SDB certification," said
EZCertify.com Founder Richard J. Otero, Sr. "Today, 70 percent of applications fail
certification due to the confusing nature of the application process. EZCertify.com offers
a quick, easy and fail-proof process for businesses owned by minorities, women and the
handicapped to qualify for the $200 billion available today in federal government
contracts."
Congressman Ruben Hinojosa (D-TX), a member of the U.S. House Small Business Committee,
visited today's certification event and encouraged attendees to pursue their business
goals.
"In the Small Business Committee, we're fighting for you," Cong. Hinojosa, who
ran a family-owned business in south Texas for 20 years prior to his election to the
House. "We know women and minorities aren't getting their fair share when it comes to
government contracts. Getting the designation is the first step. When I did this, there
wasn't anything as easy as this. The software you're looking at is fabulous. I've never
seen anything like it."
Mario Trevino, Acting Deputy SBA Administrator, also visited.
"I encourage more people to get involved with the SDB program," Mr. Trevino
said, "and I applaud the ease of this software."
